PROJECT GUIDE / REMODELING

A better starting point for your remodel

You do not need every finish selected before the first conversation. A useful brief starts with the way you use the space.

01

Write down what is not working.

List everyday frustrations such as storage, circulation, worn surfaces or a layout that no longer fits your life. Describe the situation, not just the product you think might fix it.

02

Separate essentials from possibilities.

Choose the changes that matter most, then keep a second list of ideas you would consider if the scope allows. A few reference images help when you explain exactly what you like about them.

03

Name the constraints.

Discuss timing, budget, access and how you will live in the home during the work. If your budget is still an open question, say so. Ask what information is needed before discussing a useful range.

04

Account for connected work.

A cabinet, shower or layout change may affect surrounding surfaces and other trades. Ask whether plumbing, electrical or other specialist work is involved, who handles it and what is included in the scope.

05

Use the visual choices as a starting point.

Explore the sample kitchen or bathroom, save ideas and create your brief. The model is an illustration, so dimensions, actual products and feasibility are still part of the conversation with John.
