GENERAL CONTRACTING · ROOFING & REMODELING

PROJECT GUIDE / THE WHOLE HOME

Plan the connections around your exterior

Roofing, siding, windows and doors meet at the details. If several improvements are on your list, plan those connections before the work is divided up.

01

Look at the roof-to-wall transitions.

Ask what is included where roof edges and walls meet. Discuss the relevant flashing, trim and surrounding surfaces, and make responsibility for these details clear in the written scope.

02

Think beyond the new window or door.

Ask about the work around each opening, inside and out. Casing, trim, siding and interior surfaces should be included in the conversation, along with the actual unit.

03

Discuss the order of work.

If you want more than one improvement, ask which sequence makes sense for your home. Find out whether one part affects another or whether work might need to be repeated if projects are separated.

04

Choose an overall direction.

Compare siding, frames and trim as a group. The visual planner can help you communicate the look you want; product specifications and installation details still need to be established separately.

05

Make the boundaries explicit.

A useful scope says what is included, what is excluded and how changes will be discussed. That gives everyone a shared description to refer back to when a detail affects more than one part of the home.
